Netherbrook Primary School
Essentially Dance made a huge impact on two members of staff from Netherbrook Primary School.
Inspired to put Ballroom and Latin American dancing into the National Curriculum, Jayne Foot and Shelley Stokes attended the beginners training for Essentially Dance in November 2009.
Jane and Shelly have since produced a curriculum map, short term plans and assessment materials which have seen Essentially Dance embedded into all year groups including foundation.
Dance Leaders in year 6 have been introduced with in-house accreditation and these youngsters also assist in lessons and after school dance activity. Measuring the impact has shown improvements in youngsters self esteem, co-ordination and building relationships with each other through their love to dance.
Out Of Hours clubs have also seen an increase in student’s attendance numbers with the school now having to offer 2 clubs on different days as also providing a four week club for parents. Popularity has also lead to a continuation of classes until the summer break.
Netherbrook School is also introducing a new and exciting ‘Ballroom Summer Camp’ during the first week of the summer holidays, followed by Saturday club’s for all ages including those who have left and are now at senior school.
Essentially Dance Managing Director, Sue Cooper said, “ Jayne and Shelly have captured the true spirit of Essentially Dance, there drive and commitment to staple the programme to their National Curriculum, Physical Education sector is inspiring as well as introducing the programme into schools and the community.”
All of Jayne and Shelly’s curriculum materials will shortly be available on the Essentially Dance member’s website. Any staff who has attended the Essentially Dance Training Course will be able to access these resources and further material.
